Intuit-Homestead offers listing in a link directory of all types of
firms about 10% of which could be considered relevant to what we do.
They claim that Google's robot does not dig deep enough to determine
whether there is an affinity between the firms listed in the
directory. There are various categories allowing a searcher to scroll
through them looking for their needs. Any opinions on how Google might
view this? Thanks.

Thanks for the advice.I'm just a novice at this trying to boost our
listing on Google. Almost all the stuff I read says that go for
reciprocal links but then I hear that Google is downplaying linking.
Hard to know what to believe.

Thanks for the response. It was not an actual clause in an offer. A
tech from Intuit Homestead opined that Google does not search that
deeply that they can detect the level of affinity between me and the
other URL's. Yes I am considering being included in the directory. A
not good thing? Worth the $100 bucks?
